Southern Careers Institute (SCI) - Austin

Southern Careers Institute's Austin campus is the main campus of an eight-campus Texas system founded in 1960, occupying about 18,500 square feet at 1701 W. Ben White Boulevard, minutes south of downtown, where it relocated in November 2016. SCI has been accredited by the Council on Occupational Education since 1991, is approved and regulated by the Texas Workforce Commission, is authorized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to grant associate degrees at Austin, and is approved by the Texas Veterans Commission. Programs run in continuous three-week modules with year-round starts — medical assistant (36 or 54 weeks, $18,450), medical billing and coding, HVAC ($20,025), welding ($13,950 plus kit), business accounting, and a 160-clock-hour CDL-A program at $5,500 — and healthcare and business tracks close with a six-week externship. There is no application fee. The campus enrolled 746 students in fall 2024 at a 25:1 student-instructor ratio with a 53% federal graduation rate, and its 2023 program-level placement rates at Austin included 95% for medical assistant graduates.
