Lone Star College - Cypress Center is a satellite campus of Lone Star College, a public community college system in the Houston metropolitan area accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The center opened in 2013 at 19710 Clay Road in Katy, at Clay Road and Fry Road, less than three miles from the I-10 energy corridor, and the college states it now serves more than 2,000 students. It is an extension site rather than one of the system's full colleges, and it does not teach the full Lone Star catalog. The center houses more than 15,000 square feet of workforce space with industrial laboratories, and its published workforce offerings are Engineering Design Technology (architectural and mechanical drafting certificates and AAS), Industrial Electronics Technology (field service technician certificate and AAS), Machining with CNC certificates and AAS, and Welding certificates and AAS. The Welding Technology AAS is a two-year program the college lists as offered in full at LSC-Cypress Center along with several other locations. Academic transfer and transitional education courses are also taught at the site, and student services include a Learning Commons with library and tutoring, a testing center that is an official GED testing site, a bookstore, advising and registration. Trades such as HVAC, truck driving, medical assisting and pharmacy technology belong to other Lone Star locations, not to this center. Enrollment, graduation and tuition statistics published by the federal government cover the entire Lone Star College system, which reports as a single institution, and are not specific to this center.
